European Civil Day seminar was organized by Ministry of Justice and it was attended by 80 lawyers, mostly judges. The discussion this year was about draft International Private Law and about the luck of legal doctrine in this field of law in Latvia.

Inga Kacevska is member of drafting group of this new act and she gave the presentation on identical and related claims. She explained that it was the great discussion among the members of drafting group on the legal norms that should be included in the new law, i.e., there is clear conception relating those matters in EU law but it shall be developed in relations to third - non- EU countries. Should the principle of "first come and first serve" as incorporated in the Regulation 44/2001 or the national jurisdiction priority principle be used in relations with third countries?

It was also discussed about the domicile of natural and legal person as well as applicable foreign law etc. It shall be admitted that this event starts great tradition in discussion about the development of international private law doctrine in Latvia.
